Pronouns: She/Her

Shasa Sartin was born and raised in South Minneapolis and is quite proud of that. From 2015-2019 she studied at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. Her bachelor’s degree is in religious studies. Other areas of focus included French language, Africana studies and English. From 2016-2019 she worked at the student-run newspaper, Chips, and held the position of Editor-in-Chief in the 2018-19 year. In the 2017-18 year, she had a weekly radio show on the student station KWLC where she played her favorite songs of the moment.

In 2017 she was awarded a Graduate School Exploration Fellowship from the Associated Colleges of the Midwest. The GSEF led to participation in the Summer Research Opportunity Program at the University of Iowa, Iowa City in the summer of 2018. Sartin worked under Dr. Roxanna Curto in the French and Italian department. The research examined the history of Islamophobia and anti-Blackness in the Fédération Française de Football, with a focus on contemporary commentary from French audiences during the 2018 World Cup — which France won.

In August 2019 Sartin moved to Brest, Bretagne, France to work as an English lectrice at l’Université de Bretagne Occidentale, Brest. She lived and worked in Brest until late-March 2020 when she returned to Minneapolis due to COVID-19. Sartin was working part-time as a private consulting astrologer upon her return.

Outside of work, Sartin is very passionate about astrology — even if it is technically work — journalistic and non-journalistic writing, cooking and eating marvelous food, learning about high fashion and listening to wonderful music.
