ARTISTS

DEEQ ABDI

Deeq Abdi was born in Somalia, the nation of poets, after the outbreak of the civil war. Abdi started using poetry as a form of expression from a young age, when he learned the finer points of Gabay; an ancient form of Somali poetry from family. After moving to the United States in 1998, Deeq embraced other forms of expression, including spoken word poetry and hip hop. Living in Minneapolis with a Somali mother and Irish American father gives unique perspective on creating art and culture.

JADA BROWN

Jada Brown, affiliated with the Turtle Mountain Band of Ojibwe, is a vocalist and poet who is passionate about engaging in creative resistance work. Rooted in soul, R&B and alternative sounds, her work offers a peaceful blend between captivating and tranquil, qualities also reflected in her onstage presence and and in-studio magic. Empathy as a revolutionary act is central to her work.

ASMA FARAH

Asma Farah is a spoken word artist born in Gambia and raised in the Cedar Riverside neighborhood of Minneapolis. Farah’s work explores what it means to be a part of the Somali diaspora in America.
