Sister Species

Guitarist Abby Kastrul and accordionist Emily Kastrul (Betazoid, Hazel Ra) transform two decades of sibling rivalry into raw, vibrant, orchestral pop songs. With their debut LP Closer Now, SisterSpecies showcased a sound matured as a 7-piece ensemble. Featuring Jake Baldwin (Har Mar Superstar, McNasty Brass Band), Ryan Hays (Matra), Lars Johnson (McNasty Brass Band), Sten Johnson (McNasty Brass Band, New Sound Underground), and Noah Ophoven-Baldwin (Percheron, Six Families, Drone Band), Closer Now’s intricate 3-part trumpet arrangements and driving beats lifted the sisters' harmonies into refreshing new territory.

Sister Species is overjoyed to release their second full-length album Heavy Things Do Move in November of 2018. With the addition of Adam Zahller (Six Families, GUITARband), and hilighting contributions from Andrew Thoreen (Har-di-Har, and and end), Julie Thoreen (Har-di-Har, Real Judy), Tara Loeper (Artemis, Betazoid), Lisa Harrigan (Betazoid), and Matt Olson (Robot Slide), SisterSpecies' new chamber-pop album reflects their deepened collaborative relationships.
